Mustang, Gandaki Province

Nepal

High-altitude rides through the Himalayan heartland of Nepal — from Kathmandu and Pokhara to the ancient kingdom of Upper Mustang.

Best time: May to October
Altitude: Up to approx. 3,840 m (Lo Manthang)

Nepal is where the Himalaya feels closest — a country of river valleys, sacred temples and some of the most dramatic mountain roads anywhere in the world.

Our Nepal expeditions begin in Kathmandu and ride the Prithvi Highway to the lakeside calm of Pokhara, before climbing through Beni, Tatopani and the Kali Gandaki Valley towards Jomsom, Kagbeni and the sacred Muktinath Temple.

Beyond lies Upper Mustang — a remote rain-shadow region and the former kingdom of Mustang, with barren valleys, towering cliffs, ancient caves and the historic walled city of Lo Manthang, home to centuries of Tibetan Buddhist heritage in monasteries like Jampa and Thubchen.

Special permits are required to travel in Upper Mustang, along with Annapurna Conservation Area Project permits and a TIMS card — all arranged as part of our expedition.
